STEM

ALL Scouts of Pack 68 enjoy STEM activities throughout the year and especially kicks up a notch in 2nd grade with our own STEM NOVA CLUB.  

Our very own Cub Master is the Suffolk County Council STEM NOVA Committee Chair.

Teaching Life Skills

While enjoying fun adventures your child will learn skills that they will use throughout their lifetime.  Some fun skills include, but are not limited to:

  1. Planning & Building - Participating in our annual Pinewood Derby Race is the best. Start with a wood block and make something that can race!

  2. Fire Making - Learn how to safely make fires and maintain them.

  3. Knife Safety - Learn how to be safe with pocket knifes and kitchen tools.

  4. Hand Tools - Learn what hand tool are and how to safely use them while building some awesome stuff!

  5. Map & Compass Reading

  6. Shooting Sports Skills

Cool Field Trips

During the year the Pack has the opportunity to go on different overnight trips and other day field trips.  Places that we have gone are:

  1. Battleships and Military Ships

  2. Museums

  3. Bronx Zoo

  4. Aquarium

  5. Trip to our local Fire Houses

Patriotism & Community Service

Throughout the year we teach our scouts to be part of a team and their community.  Many of our community service projects, including our fundraising efforts are to support veterans and the military.  We are proud of our country and everything it stands for.  Scouts in our Pack will learn:

  1. Proper flag etiquette

  2. Participate in flag retirement ceremonies

  3. Participate in flag opening and closing ceremonies

  4. Learn how to properly fold a flag

  5. Participate in honoring fallen heroes by participating in flag placement event at Calverton National Cemetery

  6. Participate in parades

  7. Make veteran pins and gifts to show our support for their service

Pack 68 consists of dens for each grade level from Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Dens meet usually bi-weekly with some active dens electing to meet weekly.  All these Dens when they get together form Pack 68 of Smithtown.

Pack Meetings are held on Mondays at MTP at 7pm unless building usage limitations prevent us from doing so.
